Monthly Archives: June 2008
What a great weekend at home. Caught up on a couple of movies (though both Sex & the City and I Am Legend weren’t as good as we thought they’d be).
On Saturday, Mehul joined Nick, Pinot and I for a hike at Riverbend & Great Falls Parks in VA. I think we all had a lot of fun, and followed it up with lunch outside in Bethesda. Pinot was exhausted!

On Sunday, we met up with Patterson & Connor at Wheaton Regional Park for a bit of doggie playtime in the sunshine.
Managed to get a decent amount done around the house this weekend too!

Mmmmm – ok, I’ve really been slacking on posting cooking stuffs, but given the season, I had to post about the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. Usually only make it once a year, and this year I made two pies to boot instead of using the leftover rhubarb in bread (though that was quite good last year).
Preheat oven to 400.
Prepare and chill your favorite pie crust, or use store bought. My favorite pie crust is the ‘Never Fail Pie Crust’ from none other than John Pepi – the recipe has absolutely never let me down. This time I mixed it with a bit of wheat flour.
In a bowl, mix 2 cups sliced strawberries, 2 cups sliced rhubarb, 1.5 cups sugar (I used 3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup splenda mix) and 1/4 cup tapioca. I also added a bit of dried orange peel. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Roll out pie crust. Fill with berries. Top with top crust. Flute edges.
Bake at 400 for 45-50 minutes or until slow bubbles. Chill. Enjoy. Happy Summer!

…despite the fact that we were robbed (robbed!) from winning the first round of the bocce playoffs. Yep, we waited around instead of taking the forfeit, were told to pack it up early due to the threat of rain, and went into sudden death tiebreaker only to be surpassed by someone that wasn’t technically on the other team. (lame)
but neither that nor the rain got us down, not with a plethora of sugar to be held in the form of an oreo cake, double stuff oreos and tuxedos, and take 5 marshmallow bars! Mehul’s 29-stuffed oreo leads us to the promise of a fun summer season ahead.
Final night of Bocce – aka Mehul’s Birthday (happy birthday mehul!) pictures will be included in this post soon.
