I have been looking forward to seeing this movie!  Apparently the movie ticket kiosk is excited we are seeing it too, considering we bought 2 tickets and it spit out about 6 blanks between them.  Now that is excitement.

Follow up – the movie was highly enjoyable!  I’m actually really glad that we went to K*’s bout (go Green Mountain Derby Dames!) last spring, otherwise I wouldn’t have known what the heck was going on in terms of scoring, ect!

We’ve been trying to make the trip up to Vermont for a few months now, but something always came up (or maybe we were stalling for spring….just kidding).  Anyhow, we hadn’t been back to Burlington for a visit since Brandee & Tim’s whirlwind wedding weekend last July, and we were long overdue!  We headed up this past weekend for a visit and to check out Kristin’s final derby dames bout of the season.

The ride to Vermont was interesting.  I left work at noon, thinking I’d be done with work for the weekend.  But, that didn’t happen and I spent a good 3 hours on the phone during the first 5 hours of driving.  I think Nick loved that, though he did his best to block it out.   Finally was ‘done’ with that for the weekend, and we stopped to switch up the driving at the northern part of PA.  I had packed us a cold picnic (corn on the cob, maple chipotle pork, zucchini stir fry), and we enjoyed at the PA welcome center before we decided to check the oil.  Which we did, and good thing, because we were 2 quarts or so low.  But then – wtf – the hood wouldn’t close.  Two hours, and two full cans of WD40 later, and the hood finally shut (yes, we did remember to put the oil in before the ensuing hood closing fiasco!).  So we rolled in to VT around 2AM, instead of 11:30 as originally predicted.

It actually worked out rather well – K heard us come in, and we arrived just before Erin did, so we got to hang out for a couple of hours before going to bed.  Friday was a long day.  DSC_0006

Mind you, I’d been checking the weather, and I knew that Saturday morning in VT was going to be sunny, but that the afternoon promised (you guessed it) more rain.  So I woke Nick up at around 8Am to go for a run on the bike path.  After going to sleep at 3:30.  After being in the car for 12 hours.  After being at the office for 6.   He loved me – loved me – for that one.  We rolled out of the house around 9:30 to head for the waterfront.  Realized that we would NEVER make brunch at 11:30, so had to bump that back.  But we did get a good 4 miles in before we got back to the car, and we couldn’t have timed it better because the sky opened up and it downpoured the second we were done.  All in all, I think we were both glad we got some physical activity in despite not getting much sleep!

DSC_0013We had a wonderful brunch with Brandee, Tim, Braeden and Erin – YUM! and it was great to sit down and actually hang out for a bit.  Makes me wish we lived closer and could do it more often!

Saturday evening we headed out to the derby dames bout, which was exciting!  Actually understood pretty quickly how points were scored, but wasn’t sure how/what caused penalties – as it turns out, that seemed to confuse most of the people in the audience as well (the refs were stricter than normal, and the other team was forcing penalties that didn’t usually happen).  The loss didn’t seem to make much of an impact on the team or the crowd – all 1800+ fans stayed until the very end, and the team was in fairly good spirits after the fact!  Nick and I were hungry, and headed to American Flatbread for dinner.  Opted out of going out on Sat night – by the time dinner was done around midnight, we were zonked and ready for bed!DSC_0002DSC_0016

We kicked off sunday with mothers day brunch with the Ackersons before heading to a few VT favorites - sandwich company (rajun cajun’s for dinner during the drive), lake champlain chocolates (love the factory seconds), and dakin farm (maple!  cheese!  bacon!).  with VT supplies in tow, we made the trek back to MD with a visit to Ellie in NJ along the way.

Boy was I glad I took Monday off, from coming in to the office at least!
